Medical Rehabilitation Package at Naphtalan, Ivanić Grad

With our clients’ benefit in mind Wellbe continues searching for the best options and new opportunities that could help you to improve your wellbeing.

When considering psoriasis as well as rheumatic diseases, a number of places have existed for many years providing therapies and cures for these conditions.

NAPHTALAN IVANIĆ GRAD

We, however, offer a very rare and efficient therapy with a type of naphthenic oil – naphthalan. This natural mineral oil that comes from the bowels of the earth has been used for many years in treating psoriasis and neurodermitis as well as inflammatory rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and nonarticular rheumatism).

The programme is performed in a special rehabilitation hospital near Zagreb, Croatia´s capital city.

Following the naphthalan therapy (usually 2 to 3 weeks), our offer to clients includes the opportunity to spend a further week, on the Adriatic coast in another rehabilitation institution, using sun and sea therapy as an additional beneficial cure for body and mind.

NAPHTALAN THERAPY

Naphthalan, a natural mineral oil, is a natural therapeutic agent. It does not cause skin irritation and is not carcinogenic.

Naphthalan stimulates reduction of inflammatory activity, reduction of swelling and redness, alleviation of pain, improvement of the general condition, and reduced intensity and shortened duration of “morning stiffness”.

Naphthalan therapy is applied through:

  • Bathing in naphthalan in a purpose-built bath tub and
  • Applying naphthalan to the entire body

In the first instance, when taking a naphthalan bath, the patient is immersed in naphthalan oil at a temperature of 34 to 38oC up to his/her shoulders, for 8 to 14 minutes a day.

In the second case, the patient’s body is covered with naphthalan and exposed to UVA – UVB lamp light for 15 to 20 minutes.

Additional therapies using naphthalan:

Iontophoresis

The therapeutic medium, naphthalan, driven by an electric field, is introduced from the cathode into the affected area.

Sonophoresis

Naphthalan is applied as the contact medium between the ultrasound probe and the targeted body area.

Application of the sonophoresis onto small hand and feet joints is performed in a naphthalan bath into which the ultrasound probe is immersed with the patient after being positioned to target the affected body area.

Masticotherapy

A crude solid preparation containing 30% naphthalan, a mixture of paraffin, wax and camphor is applied as a warm compress or by dipping into a solution of these ingredients by heating, as with a paraffin application.

This thermotherapy procedure results in an extremely prolonged thermal effect and a very pleasant reaction.

This therapy yields specific rehabilitation effects even in case of inflammatory rheumatism because pain is alleviated, swelling is reduced, muscle tension is relaxed and the previously limited range of motion is increased.

Applying naphthalan under occlusive dressing

Applying naphthalan onto skin, under a PVC foil as an occlusive dressing, is often done at night to treat affected areas.

OTHER THERAPIES

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is carried out in a pool filled with thermomineral water. Water is extracted from a depth of 1,300 m. underground. It is salty water which contains a mixture of sodium-chloride, iodine and other useful minerals. The water temperature at the source is 60oC and in the pool, after it has been cooled, about 34oC.

Exercises, under a physical therapist’s supervision, are carried out in the pool which can be used for free recreation and bathing in the afternoons and weekends.

Massage

The patients are especially fond of massage which is carried out by experienced masseuses in the following forms:

  • underwater massage
  • manual massage of the entire body or partial body massage

Thermotherapy, Phototherapy, Electrotherapy, Magnetotherapy

Medical gymnastics (kinesitherapy)

As part of medical therapy, as a group or an individual, medical gymnastics are performed under a physical therapist’s supervision. These activities are carried out in the hospital´s gym specially equipped with all the necessary accessories.
